Consider our, Americas ties to it’s birth…the liberty bell is certainly a big part of that….ringing for some ninty years.before cracks forced the bell into retirement.infact no one alive now has been able to hear that a amazing sound.when asked most people find it hard to recall when they last heard any bell ring.it brings a sadness to ones sprit.ringing bells mean many things, a call to church,to come home for a meal with family and friends.time to come to school and a time as quoted by Ben Franklin to assemble an work out differences with political allies and rivals for the good of all.
Now here are some facts not opinion as I found on the national park services about our liberty bell
Speaker of the Pennsylvania Assembly Isaac Norris first ordered a bell for the bell tower in 1751 from the Whitechapel Foundry in London. That bell cracked on the first test ring. Local metalworkers John Pass and John Stow melted down that bell and cast a new one right here in Philadelphia. It’s this bell that would ring to call lawmakers to their meetings and the townspeople together to hear the reading of the news. Benjamin Franklin wrote to Catherine Ray in 1755, “Adieu, the Bell rings, and I must go among the Grave ones and talk Politicks.”
The information on the face of the bell tells us who cast the bell (John Pass and John Stow), where (Philadelphia) and when (1753):
Pass and Stow
Wow let’s look at those facts…first we order the Bell from London England…the very place we fled from. Upon the first test ring it cracked.without searching for blame or fault I look for a message.first very ironic a little funny,I’m sure the English enjoyed a small laugh…what did we do at that point,we rolled up our sleves.our souls sprit and hearts ready to fix it,heal that bell.John Pass and John Stow melted it down and recast it.some years later a cracked began and again we healed it.but once another crack began and with another ironic twist ..right through the words liberty..almost a slap in the face.the decision was made to preserve the Bell in it’s broken state…not blaming or judging just revisiting the events….
Now fast forward too today, one by one for some reason lots more bells have been silenced. Out of favor and the old answer to many questions the cost money.many religions and spiritual cultures feel ringing bells bring peace to restless sprits and drives away the bad ..you may remember in the movie it’s a wonderful Life the little girl at the end says everytime a bell rings a angel gets thier wings…I strongly believe we need all the angels we can get…
I propose we give the liberty bell it’s purpose back. It’s that’s bells nature to ring out…we all have heard the expression “that rings true” “saved by the bell” I refer more towards the boxing not the TV program.Mr pass , Mr Stow and even Mr Franklin himself would probably wonder what’s taken us so long to heal this bell….I am sure we can create a cast,a mold from the original bell. Melt it back down just as we did before..study the metal, bring balance to it.then recast it,improving it where it needs to be and let freedom ring across our country.showing what Americans can do. Understand that there are no failers or success just results….and that’s really the difference between actions that come from a combined sprit ,soul and heart. You hear alot about our founders these days .about that they were smarter. That’s not really it,no matter the results they pushed forward. As a point of reference as we left England there were two ships the Mayflower and the Speedwell. Well friends you probably haven’t heard much about the Speedwell. After two failed attempts to leave we gave up on the Speedwell packed everything into the Mayflower and you know the rest. Most likely where the phrase began the third time is the charm. Much like our bell the third time may be the charm. We bring life and sprit into that bell as well as ourselves.why preserve it in it’s broken unusable state.like many of us feeling like we have no purpose because don’t let our sprit guide us.
All donations should be prvitae no one person or corporate enity should take credit. I would gladly send in a few Franklins to see this and hear this glorious bell return to it’s original purpose and ring out it’s message
